Rootstock is owned by Memphis wine expert Scott Smith. A veteran of the wine industry, Smith got his start stocking shelves as a teenager at a local liquor store, moved on to work for a distributor, Rootstock Wine Merchants is Smith's third store. His most recent was Wine Market, a shop on Spottswood in East Memphis that he ran from 2006 to 2019.
